About the workplace

The Environmental Administration is a workplace where your contribution makes a difference for the city's residents, businesses, and our environment. We are around 80 employees working for good health, safe food, and environmentally sustainable development. We want it to be easy for Helsingborg's operations to do the right thing and simple to live sustainably in the city. The goal is a high quality of life for everyone, within the planet's boundaries.

You will become part of the Department of Environmental Strategy and Monitoring. The department drives, develops, and monitors the city's environmental and climate work. Together, we work with strategies, coordination, and concrete measures that contribute to environmentally sustainable development in Helsingborg.

Responsibilities

You will be our coordinator for the city's chemical work. Helsingborg has conducted a mapping that shows the city needs a more systematic and strategic approach to chemical issues. We are now establishing a new role to lead this work forward.

In the role, you will be responsible for, among other things:

  • Develop and implement steering documents for the city's chemical work
  • Introduce and manage a city-wide chemical management program
  • Coordinate and provide strategic guidance regarding the municipality's handling and use of chemicals
  • Conduct training initiatives and develop routines for safe chemical handling
  • Support the city's administrations in chemical matters, for example within schools, operations and maintenance, construction and infrastructure, as well as cleaning and janitorial services
  • Support municipal companies regarding chemicals in CSRD (Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive)
  • Provide knowledge support to the procurement unit's sustainability strategists during tenders, requirement setting, and contract follow-up
  • Collaborate with environmental and health protection case handlers and contribute chemical expertise during inspections
  • Monitor chemical legislation and ensure compliance
  • Spread knowledge about the impact of chemicals on the environment and human health, both within the organization and to the general public
  • Write official statements within the chemical field

A large part of the work is done in collaboration with other administrations and companies in the city. The role involves both strategic and operational work.

What we offer

With us, you get a meaningful assignment with the opportunity to build and shape a completely new role in the city. You will have wonderful colleagues who are passionate about the environment and sustainability. We work flexibly and activity-based with offices in Oceanhamnen, Jordbodalen, and Malmö. We value the balance between work and leisure and offer flexible hours, partially location-independent work, up to 3,000 SEK per year in wellness benefits, the possibility to exchange holiday pay for days off, and more.

Qualifications

We are looking for you who have a relevant higher education or university degree in environmental or natural sciences with broad knowledge in chemistry, or other education that the employer considers equivalent.

You have a basic understanding of chemical legislation and regulations in the chemical field. It is an advantage if you have education in ecotoxicology or environmental chemistry.

We would like you to have experience with:

  • Strategic work with chemical issues in companies or public operations
  • Translating chemical legislation, such as REACH and CLP, into practical requirements and working methods
  • Work with chemical management programs and digital monitoring tools
  • Project management and change management

To thrive in the role, you need to be self-reliant, structured, and have a good ability to collaborate and drive issues forward. You are confident in switching between strategic perspectives and operational work. You have pedagogical and communicative skills and are skilled at expressing yourself professionally in both speech and writing in Swedish. You possess digital skills and have an understanding of monitoring and data management.

We place great importance on personal suitability.
